Victory for Victoria and great news for Georgia! - 19.7.2006
Victoria Brewis (aged 14) is to represent Durham at the English National Schools Cross Country Finals at the end of March. To be able to represent Durham at this impressive level Victoria was required to come in the top 16 competitors at the Wearside Schools Championships in December and again in the top 16 competitors at the County Trials. Continued success has resulted in her representing Durham at the Inter Championships where she came in the top eight competitors despite being one of the youngest. Victoria (a pupil at Grindon Hall Christian School) has been a member of the Houghton and Peterlee Athletics Club since she was eight and is currently under the watchful eye of coach Lynne Cooper who has herself been a Commonwealth Games competitor.
Not only is Grindon Hall eagerly following Victoria’s progress but of one of their Year 7 students Georgia Stevenson who shows great potential. After representing Sunderland at the Tyne and Wear Sports Hall Final in January Georgia was chosen to be on the Tyne and Wear Under 13 team. After competing against teams from Durham, Northumberland, Tees Valley and Tyne and Wear her next hurdle is to compete in Birmingham at the National Finals of the Norwich Union Indoor Sports Hall Athletics competition in April.
