We have linked up with volunteer coaches from the Amateur Rowing Association (ARA) in Sunderland to provide pupils with the opportunity to try their hand at rowing.

 

Making use of the Sunderland Rowing Club we has embarked on a new Autumn Term programme which will enable pupils to gain a better understanding and experience of the sport and provide representatives from the ARA to scout for possible local talent!  

 

The ARA has more than 500 affiliated clubs and 23,000 individual members and aims to “support clubs in forming lasting and mutually beneficial links with the local community, schools and universities”.  ARA Team North Coaching Development Officer Rob Cree has a passion for the sport that he wants to share, “Rowing is an exhilarating sport that most young people in Sunderland do not experience.  Working with Grindon Hall is a fantastic opportunity for both the ARA and the school”.

 

Over recent years we have introduced a wide range of extra curricular activities including kayaking, Samba Band, fencing, catering, dance, skiing, golf and trampolining “We seek to pursue excellence in everything we do, from academic life to sport and extra-curricular activities.  Rowing is a good way to build up leadership skills and a commitment to teamwork” (Vice Principal, Mr Waterfield).
