EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITY

Malawi (Summer 2008)

Students in our Sixth Form had the opportunity to travel to Malawi to work on another Salvation Army Project - "Trees for Bees" - during the summer of 2008.  Fundraising included a number of concerts, quiz nights, a ceilidh, karaoke night, car boot sale, dog show, car washing and even a bit of busking.

Our sincere thanks the Three Rivers Housing Association, Gentoo, Sunderland Magistrates Court/Sunderland Council and Seaburn Rotary Club who all generously contributed to the fundraising.  Those going on the trip raised £1,500 to cover the flight, food, accomodation, training and material costs of the venture.  The trip was most suceesful and a wonderful experience for all concerned.

Uganda Trip Report (Summer 2006)

Helping the Salvation Army in Kampala (Uganda) our students were set the task of rebuilding a rural primary school in Kitwanga, near Kigumba, in the Masindi district. Having spent 12 months raising funds in order to make the trip the two week programme gave students an opportunity to experience life in Africa as well as help in a very worthwhile project.

EXAM SUCCESS

Congratulations to all of our year 11 pupils who sat their GCSE examinations in 2009.  Outstanding results were achieved including four girls who received straight A grades with a number of A*s.  Amy Johnson and Joanne Greenwell are two of our high achievers and we are delighted that they have chosen to stay with us in our Sixth Form.

Last summer we also said goodbye to our first group of Year 13 pupils all of whom have done very well and every member of the group has progressed on to Higher Education. This represents an encouraging start to our Sixth Form at Grindon Hall. Students have taken places on a wide range of courses including Nursing, Geography, Media and Music Technology, International Management and German, Biomedical Science, Geography, Chemistry with Pharmaceutical and Forensic Science and English Literature.
