The School

Grindon Hall Christian School is an independent, non-selective day school for boys and girls aged 3 to 18.

What does that mean?

A Christian School – this means we affirm Christian truth, employ Christian teachers, hold a daily act of Christian worship and aim to have Christ at the centre of all we do.  It means we pursue excellence in everything we do, from academic life to sport and extra-curricular activities.  It does not mean we only admit children from Christian families: around 80% of our pupils are from non-faith or other faith backgrounds and all are welcome.  And it does not mean that we adopt extremist positions which in our view can often devalue the reputation of Christian education.

A non-selective school – that means we do not select pupils on the basis of academic ability.  We admit exceptionally bright children as well as children who are academically much less able.  The former tend to achieve the very highest possible grades at Grindon Hall; whilst the latter tend to achieve more than they might elsewhere, and are valued and cared for along the way.  Partly because of our commitment to a non-selective policy, we have a very clear approach to streaming from Year 7 upwards.

An Independent school– this means we are self-governing and free to appoint staff, admit pupils and use our resources as we see fit without reference to local authorities or the government.

A co-educational school – this means we admit both boys and girls at every stage of the school.  Typically, we will have equal numbers of boys and girls, although of course that does vary between year groups.

3 to 18 – we have pupils from nursery age right up to sixth form.
